Donna Lanier was all smiles mid-March. The energetic leader of One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning was humble and thoughtful when we caught up with her at Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary School. Business is good, according to Lanier, and when business is good it is time to give back to the community that has lifted her up. Goldsmith Schiffman is proud to have partners like Donna Lanier at One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning to support Green Fling; we are proud to support her. (Huntsville, AL)-- Green Fling 2012 took a major step forward with the generous support of One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning in Huntsville. Green Fling is a one day, super-day of learning that involves every resource available for teaching at Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary. Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary is the newest elementary school in the Huntsville City School System.
Green Fling is the flagship in-house learning program offered by the school. It's a new twist on the traditional "field day" offered at most schools.
"We are so fortunate to be in a position to give back to the community," said Donna Lanier of One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning. "We are used to teaching adults about the merits of energy conservation and constant temperatures, and to teach the children is just wonderful."
Sponsorships like the $1500 contribution from Lanier and One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning make extraordinary days in education possible.
"There is a real need for additional resources," said Erin Boles, chair of Green Fling. "Ms. Lanier has done a great job in business and has a lot of lessons to teach. Her donation makes this possible," said Boles.
Thanks to the donation, students will hear from wildlife experts in person rather than via video. Active lectures will include opportunities to see native wildlife in controlled classroom environments. Even hydroponic farming will be introduced to the children, said Erin Boles. "It's a great day of learning but it has truly taken everyone to make it happen. Parents, students and leadership from the private sector."
Green Fling is an all day super-day of education May 4 at Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary School off Taylor Road in Owens Crossroads.
